Cannes Lions 2024: Innovation winners

A device that detects diabetes in people's voices won the Innovation Grand Prix at the 2024 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity

The Innovation Grand Prix at Cannes Lions was awarded to Voice 2 Diabetes, for KVI Brave Fund by Klick Health, Toronto.

The health and pharma brand created an AI tool that screens for Type 2 diabetes through voice analysis, offering a non-invasive alternative to traditional blood tests. Achieving up to 89% accuracy for women and 86% for men, this approach promises a cost-effective and accessible diabetes screening solution, potentially transforming healthcare access in India.

In this future-facing category, the jurors were looking for ideas ‘that open doors for other ideas’ said jury president Diego Machado, global chief creative officer of AKQA. When looking at the 23 entries, they ‘tried to remove the distractions’ (such as developments in AI) because ‘tech can’t replace a powerful idea’, he added. Voice 2 Diabetes is an example of ‘a powerful, creative, innovative idea’ and not just tech for tech’s sake. ‘Innovation is about the way we think,’ said Machado.

Ultimately, Voice 2 Diabetes won because it is a real-world solution, he concluded. ‘You can actually do it, it makes you think that anything is possible. A tool that everyone has in their hands – that’s so powerful.’
